October 30th, 2007: Win Mötley Crüe’s New 2-CD Album from Modern Guitars

Modern Guitars magazine has three copies of Mötley Crüe’s latest 2-CD album, Carnival Of Sins (Eleven Seven Music), to giveaway to readers on December 1, 2007. From a recent review by Ignacio Gonzalez: “Mötley Crüe hit the nail on the head of the ’80s revival craze with the release of their new live, double album Carnival Of Sins. Among other reasons, Carnival Of Sins is an enjoyable listen simply because it represents what the ’80s glam metal experience was all about: live, high-octane, arena-rock madness. The Crüe’s 2005 Carnival of Sins tour may not have mirrored the outrageously well-attended shows in the ’80s (20 to 30 thousand people a night was the typical minimum), but the band’s recording of the tour in this new album is the perfect way for fans to re-live the madness and for young generations to know that there’s more to Mötley Crüe than drummer Tommy Lee’s spousal-related exploits. A companion to the live DVD of the same name, Carnival Of Sins was recorded during the Crüe’s 2005 performance at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Supported by cable music channel VH1, the top grossing tour for that year supported the band’s release of the greatest-hits compilation, Red, White & Crüe, and reached approximately one million people in the U.S. Singer Vince Neil, drummer Tommy Lee, guitarist Mick Mars, and bassist Nikki Sixx are captured in Carnival Of Sins performing live versions of 23 tracks spanning their entire career.”You can submit your chance to win one of the three CDs, by simply sending an email with MOTLEY CRUE in the subject line to crue@modernguitars.com stating your full name, mailing address, and telephone number.Entry emails must be received by November 30, 2007. Only one entry per person will be accepted. Contest eligibility is worldwide. The contest is not open to Modern Guitars employees, staff, or contractors. The winners will be selected randomly on November 1. [Source]

October 29th, 2007: Some rock-band reunions are rockier than others

“We’re getting along better than we have before.” So said Eddie Van Halen at a news conference in August, when his namesake band announced its reunion tour with original singer David Lee Roth. If only the guitar god’s statement really said all that much. The Roth-fueled outing puts a postscript on a legendary lineup that was contentious throughout most of its original 12-year run. Many fans flocked to the tour’s Sept. 27 opening date in Charlotte, N.C., because they didn’t expect it to last much past that.Fans lining up for the tour will no doubt be watching for signs of turmoil and/or hints of what’s to come.We take a look back at some of rock’s most famous tension-filled, acrimonious reunion tours, and how they fared in the end.

October 29th, 2007: Tommy Lee: I Would Never Do A Stupid Show Like ‘Rock Of Love’

Former Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee has shot down reports that he is considering appearing on upcoming season of the “Rock of Love” reality TV show, according to Blabbermouth.net. The first season of “Rock of Love” was a 10-part series that focused on the never-before-revealed private side of notoriously wild rocker Bret Michaels, lead singer of the multi-platinum legendary party band Poison, who had 20 beautiful women residing in his Los Angeles rock palace in an attempt to win a VIP pass to his heart.Lee, who was rumored to be a contender for the “rock star” role in the show’s second season, stated via his official newsletter, “Just to stop the rumors… I AM NOT nor would I ever do a stupid show like the ‘Rock of Love’!!” Lee’s reality show, “Tommy Lee Goes to College” premiered on August 16, 2005 with two back-to-back episodes on NBC. The six-episode show followed Lee’s studies and extracurricular activities at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, such as finding a roommate, trying out for the marching band and cramming for finals. Lee was also one of the producers of the series. Tommy also starred in “Rock Star: Supernova”, a TV show which focused on Lee, former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted, and one-time Guns N’ Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke as they searched for a lead singer for their newly formed band. The winner (Lukas Rossi) recorded an album with the group and completed a North American tour. [Source]

He’s been calling up all his former lovers and proposing over the phone, according to In Touch Weekly. One ex, model Erin Naas says Lee called her on October 13 and proposed. She says, “It’s true. Tommy was joking, though.” But friends think Lee is serious about getting married again. One close pal says, “He’s heartbroken over losing Pam again.
