Even in 2008, Tommy Lee embraces the road warrior lifestyle with an energy that would make rockers half his age collapse, panting. About a year ago, he hit the road with DJ Aero to spread the word of their electro-sleaze DJ/production project. They criss-crossed the country, hit the Winter Music Conference hard, and kept at it.This summer, then, Lee picked up the real-life drum kit again for a tour with Motley Crue (which featured a, um, really mature segment in which he pointed a camera at the audience and screamed “titties!” a whole lot).Now, he’s back on the road with Aero, and hitting the recently reopened Karu & Y for a DJ gig on Halloween. If you are undeterred by wading through the neighborhood’s real-life zombies, you’re promised an evening of nasty, funky, vocal-inflected electro-house, spiced up with plenty of traditional rock and roll antics. October 16 was a red-letter day for rock fans on the little red dot with American glam-metal legends, Motley Crue staging their first-ever concert at Fort Canning Park on their only stop in South-East Asia on their Saints of Los Angeles Tour. This was something rockers had been waiting for and it was clear as a sea of fans formed in front of the stage the moment it hit 1930hrs. After waiting 27 years for this night of decadence, it was understandable so I sacrificed my hot dog to join the hordes shuffling to the front for a maximum Motley Crue experience. I found myself positioned close to the potentially deafening speakers, but I couldn’t have been in a better spot as I later discovered. With some time for rubber-necking, I spotted Crue fans ranging from the original (read: middle-aged) to barely legal boys dressed in what could only be their fathers’ metal T-shirts (How did they even get in?). There were also 20-something hardcore fans in mullets and 80s-inspired denim vests looking as if they have travelled from the past to catch the day’s concert.

The final six bands were chosen from a pool of 30 semi-finalists over a period of two days as each semi- finalist performed one song live in front of a panel of industry experts at Guitar Center’s legendary Sunset Boulevard location. The final six bands will continue onto the finals to perform live for Motley Crue at the world famous Whisky A Go-Go on November 10th in Hollywood. The top six bands were chosen by influential leaders in the music industry, including President of FUSE TV, Eric Sherman; Producer and Front man of Sixx:A.M., James Michael; Music Director of Los Angeles radio station 98.7, Julie Pilat; Chris Nilsson of Tenth St. Entertainment and General Manager of Eleven Seven Music, Frank Woodworth.
