| January 29, 2009 | Motley Crue in a ‘cool place,’ says Lee |
“We just refuse to die. We’re still here,” Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx remarked during a mid-January teleconference interview with reporters.Sixx was speaking to Motley Crue’s latest comeback, which might be the most unlikely of all the band’s resurrections, considering that since the early 1990s the group had seemed to be on perennially shaky ground. Most likely, it appeared if the band managed to stay active, it would not be with its famous original lineup of Sixx, singer Vince Neil, guitarist Mick Mars and drummer Tommy Lee. And whether the band in any form would ever be capable of making any meaningful new music at any point was highly questionable at best.Let’s rewind the tape. First, Neil quit in 1992. The band tried to push ahead with new singer John Corabi. But the lone CD by this version of the band, 1994′s “Motley Crue,” stiffed, and by the late 1990s, Neil, whose own solo career had floundered, had rejoined the fold. The group released a studio CD, “Generation Swine,” in 1997 and went on tour, but it was not a lasting reunion. Lee jumped ship in 1999, and subsequently traded some heated barbs with Neil in the media. |

| January 18, 2009 | Motley Crue’s Lee revives Mayhem |
Tommy Lee is ready for a little mayhem — and not just with Motley Crue. The rock drummer — who with his bandmates kicks off the group’s Saints of Los Angeles tour January 31 in Indio, California — told Billboard he has started work on his second Methods of Mayhem album, following up his side project’s platinum 1999 debut.DJ Aero and guitarist Kai Marcus are still onboard, and Lee’s producing partner Scott Humphrey “is starting to get involved” as the songs are formulating. “We’re going to start tracking as soon as Motley is done (touring) at the end of March, and hopefully I’ll have it ready by April/May and done by the top of June,” Lee said.Lee said he wouldn’t mind having Methods of Mayhem on the Crue Fest II tour, which is slated to begin in July, “like (Motley Crue bassist) Nikki (Sixx) did with Sixx:A.M. last year. That’d be killer.”As for the rest of the Crue Fest II lineup, Lee said it’s still being discussed. “There’s offers going around all over the place,” he said. “We actually talked about that a little. Rob Zombie’s name came up. Godsmack. Alice Cooper. I’d like to switch it up, add a little bit more variety this year. I think it’d be fun to inject that.” [Source] |

| January 6, 2009 | Tommy Lee reveals Crue’s stripping rule |
Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee has implemented a new rule for anyone entering the rock band’s dressing room. The 46-year-old told Playboy that he will allow people backstage on the proviso that they shed a layer of clothing.”You must remove one article of clothing – your pants, your top – or else you are not allowed in my dressing room,” he said. “That gets the f**king party started so quick. Everyone’s walking around topless.”Motley Crue released ninth studio album Saints Of Los Angeles last summer. It is the first record to feature the group’s original lineup since 1997′s Generation Swine. [Source] |
