We’ve had TV talent shows and the YouTube orchestra but now wannabe rock musicians are getting a shot at fame by recording tracks with Motley Crue’s Tommy Lee, through a new crowdsourcing website. The competition is being run by The Public Record, a site launched by record producer Scott Humphrey. In what promises to be the first in a series of artists auditioning musicians via the web, The Public Record is making ‘raw’ Tommy Lee tracks available and encouraging the public to record and upload their own accompaniments – on anything from drums and bass to the kazoo, if anyone were so moved. A number of tracks have already been made available. Unfortunately ‘Drunk Uncle Pete’ is no longer downloadable but interested musicians can still access ‘Louder’ and ‘Swallow Me’, at the time of writing. Read the rest of this entry » |

Electric guitar players, bassists and people who play any other type of musical instrument are being invited to appear on Tommy Lee’s new album. The Motley Crue rocker has launched a competition through The Public Record website, in which musicians are invited to upload their accompaniments to raw backing tracks. Video footage of MĂ–TLEY CRĂśE drummer and METHODS OF MAYHEM mastermind Tommy Lee in the studio laying down tracks for METHODS OF MAYHEM‘s new album can be viewed below. METHODS OF MAYHEM‘s “Public Mayhem” album collaboration project was launched on October 5. Lee and METHODS producer Scott Humphrey posted isolated instrument tracks, or stems, from the upcoming album on the web site ThePublicRecord.com. Anyone with a great musical idea is invited to play a part in helping to achieve true “Public Mayhem”, i.e. collaborate on the album. A wide range of formats are available to work with, including RiffWorks, WAV, Logic, GarageBand, Pro Tools and the Four Track 3.0 iPhone application. Mötley CrĂĽe have announced plans for an updated version of their Greatest Hits, including a special never before heard remix of “The Animal In Me” and the Grammy nominated “Saints of Los Angeles” from the hit Saints Of Los Angeles album. The remix of “The Animal In Me” comes from an interpretation by James Michael, who co-produced the song with Nikki Sixx and DJ Ashba. The CrĂĽe will offer a new version of their Greatest Hits in time for the 2009 holiday season and will include hits like “Dr. Feelgood,” “Without You,” “Smokin’ In The Boys’ Room,” “Home Sweet Home,” “Girls, Girls, Girls,” “Kickstart My Heart,” “Same Ol’ Situation (S.O.S.)”, “Don’t Go Away Mad,” “If I Die Tomorrow,” “Saints of Los Angeles” and also a new remix of “The Animal In Me.” The album will be released on November 17. [Source] |
